Fun Painting Surface

I thought it would be fun for you to see something different. So for a quick post today, here are the details...

Signature Canvas has this interesting canvas style on offer. It does not come inexpensively, however. If you receive the Empty Easel Newsletter, you can use a discount offer to purchase one of these fun canvases.

If you purchased one (or more) of these, how would you paint it? Would you use the indention as a painting and the exterior part of the canvas as a border for the painting or would the indention be part of a 3-D collage? But you might have another completely different idea.

Have a Wonderful Tuesday in Your Part of the World!

What a fun canvas! yes I have seen them. What would I do......probably paint around it and put something 3 D in the middle.
I can´t wait to see what you will do Kim

This is definitely new to me. I too would have to play with it awhile before determining how i wanted to use it. If the indentation were larger and the border smaller yes, most likely I'd do an assemblage inside with painting outside. I can see one of your grid paintings on this. going on into the inside from the outside. Cant wait to see what you come up with here. thanks for the intro to new materials.

Thanks Marianne!

I don't have one of these, myself. I am still trying to decide if I really would like working with one of them. There are all of other canvases which are triangular, oval and circular, too. I have a few ideas for the triangular one but would like to see them in smaller sizes, too.

I was just eager to hear the ideas of others on this particular product.

Thanks Marianne!

Babs! You would really come up with something fun for this! Okay, at least 2 of them for Babs! You could get one of those 5 foot ones and another few to fit into the indention! :) Let us know if you give it a try!

Thanks Babs!

Hi Suki,

Oh yes, you would have to do one of your fabulous assemblages with this one...or you could create a series of books for the indention!

Doing something like the grid would be unexpected for one of these canvases. I think I would like doing that, too. I also think it would be cool to have a canvas with multiple indentions.

Thanks Suki!

Oh Cool! I would cut a little hole in the back for a wire and insert a little light bulb. Cover the front with a sheet of colored clear acetate and paint on it. Hang it up, plug it in and the middle will shine. (smile)

Hey now, that would be fun!

Thanks Chewy!

How interesting. I have used small jewelry size boxes to set them into the canvas for a very similar effect.

I used the space to place altar objects.

Hi Paula,

That is so cool...I really like the idea of this being an "altar painting".

You are amazing...did you order this canvas or did you find it locally?

Thanks Paula

Hi Kim, this is such an interesting canvas, I went to see it bigger on clicking on your link...I wonder how this works, does indention mean that there is like a flatter surface where I see the little square?

Kim, I would probably just let the painting continue into the indented area, then climb back out. Then again, the notions I have when I begin a painting tend to be altered dramatically once I'm painting. Who knows where I'd be led?

This canvas would be an intriguing place to start the process.

Hi Andrea,

I think this is like an indention in the canvas. Kind of like a window which is not clear...with a small shelf, if you will, at the bottom. At least that is the way I am seeing it! I would like to see one painted, though!

Thanks!

Hi San,

Yes, I am not even sure I would enjoy working on one of these, but I can also see where they might be interesting. You are right, I am also that way in I can have a great plan which never really works out as I intended.

I am sure you would end up doing something wonderful, San!

Thanks!
