A Bit of Pouring

As I have mentioned things here are rather busy at the moment and time in the studio is limited. But I was able to get this pieces started. This canvas is 4" x 12" and the base is painted with Paynes Grey. The pink acrylic was blended into the glazing medium I often use clear and a bit of pearl added. The white is only pearl mixed with the glazing medium. Both of these were allowed to sit for 24 hours after mixing. Then I poured some of this onto the canvas. While the poured paint was wet, I shook the canvas hard and also hit the edge against the heel of my hand to make the paint spread in this way.

Now I am thinking this needs a bit of detail added, but so far I have achieved this much. It seems when I get into a crunch for time here, I end up doing some poured work since I can pour for a bit, then stop and come back to much later.

I hope to be able to get a bit more done this weekend, too. How about you? Do you have some beautiful plans?

Have a Great Weekend!

I like the direction you are going in!! This is definitly got me interested! I really like the glazes that Golden makes. It does take longer to do a painting working with mediums-as it has to be done in stages, but keep going, Girl!! Love it.

Oh I love this painting. The colors so soothing. I love the sense of movement pouring creates. And the idea of pouring. I have never tried that. The ultimate in letting go. Wonderful.

There are several events this Saturday and I will wait till Sat morning to choose between the literary festival (intense and 45 minutes away) or a small local Autumn fair about 6 minutes away and very relaxed. My choice will depend on my energy level. Last night I slept but a few hours, tossing and turning and so very tired today. Have fun in the studio this WE.

Thanks Julianne! As an artist I really admire, your encouragement means so much! Yes, the mediums do take longer, but I suppose good things come to those who wait, right? You should know!

Hugs!

Hi Suki,

You would probably like pouring. I find doing it is very appealing as it truly is a combination of control and lack of control.

Don't you hate it so much when you want to sleep and you can't? It irritates me so much. I hope tonight you get a really lovely night's rest and make a decision which is fun, exciting and relaxing tomorrow.

Thanks Suki!

Kim, I like the active feel of your poured work. It's exciting!

Plans this weekend: movie and dinner tonight with my sweetie, work the gallery tomorrow with my sweetie, join the kids tomorrow evening for a Lobos game.

Hi San...you know my paintings are a very active part of my life. I really like to "physically participate" in their evolution. My husband would probably say they are my "children" LOL Your comment made me think of this, anyway. Thank You!

It sounds as though you have an exciting weekend planned. I know you are very much looking forward to these precious times.

Thanks San!

Kim, I really like this dripping painting very much. The colours of the soft pink and the pearl make me want to lick up the paint and it looks as if the paint was still flowing!
Have a lovely weekend

Thanks Andrea! You know what is funny? The pink and the white, with the pearl added, remind me of European pastry icing. So I think it is funny you had the desire to "lick up the paint"!

Thanks Dear Andrea!

Kim, yes, some of the macarons have these colours too...hmmm, now I want macarons!!!
:)
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, mine is calm with my head into books and paint and outside it is very very windy, a bit rainy too and we haven't put our heads outside the whole day...love autumn weather, though,

Ahhh, that is true! I didn't think specifically about the macaroons! Good Point!

And I am glad you are enjoying the weekend there. I know what you mean about autumn. I love it as well. It has been nothing shy of a perfect weekend here. Sunny, coolish days and cool nights have graced us as have the beginnings of the autumn leaf change.

I am eager to see what your time in the studio brought you as well as to hear about the books you have been exploring.

Thanks Andrea!

Hi Kim!
How funny,,,I have a 'poured painting' that I finished while my sister was here in July. I just brought it back from the lake, as I decided I wanted to paint over it, it seems a bit boring to me,,,,unlike yours.
Maybe I'll take a photo of mine & post it before I paint over it.
I really like the shapes & placement of shapes in yours.
Studio time is at a premium here also,,,,sigh,,,,but life is good anyway,,I'm thankful to have many things going on, never bored.
Happy Sunday Kim!

Hi Babs,

That is funny...and I always think other people's work seems so much more interesting than mine. I think it is because I have gotten used to seeing it and other artist's work is fresh! You know? So post it and see what people say before you over-paint. You just never know.

I have this little sticker on my little car which is this little stick figure guy dancing along and below it says "Life Is Good" Do you know that product line?

Thanks Babs!

YIKES,,,,I DO know that product line Kim,,,,I have 2 t-shirts that are "life is good'.
They are great!

Kim, I really like this. What is the reason for letting the mix set for 24 hours????

Kim, I got sooooo excited on Saturday in Brattleboro. I stopped into the gallery in the woods art gallery. And there on the wall were 8 of those indented canvases you showed us. The artist used them each time for little assemblages in the indeted part. She left the exterior canvas white as if it were a mat. Her assemblages were exquisit and I guess doing them in a canvas like that gives them a sort of "authority."

That's pretty. I love how the colors ended up on the canvas. It looks done to me.
I used the weekend to draw and to wind down. I feel so much better having a do nothing weekend. Rented a couple movies, drew and vegged.

Hi Paula,

Thank you.

I don't think they say you should allow it to sit for 2 hours, but for a few hours. I do it for 24 to MAKE SURE the air has risen to the top from the mixing process. It also depends on how thick the mixture is as to how long you would have to let it sit....I am just overly cautious, probably.

Thanks Paula!

Hey Suki,

Now how cool is that? I didn't know about those canvases and you have now seen a whole wall of them. You know, it makes a lot of sense they would be perfect for assemblage work. Well...hey, Suki, they would be perfect for YOU! I am so glad you shared your find here. And I am glad you were able to get to Brattleboro for a little bit of literary fun.

Thanks Suki!

Thanks Cris. I am glad you like this.

It sounds as though your weekend was fun and very relaxing. You sure deserved that after the summer you have had. I hope it is continuing into this week, too.
