Something A Little Different

I have no idea what to call this. I do not know how to present it, really. I have not actually decided it works, so I am sticking my neck out here to share it with you.

As you know I have been working on all kinds of things lately, in and out of the studio. Some of those things make me crazy, some frighten me (like creating a watermark) and some are pure joy. With this painting, you are looking at all three of these. It makes me crazy because it is on paper and you all know how I feel about framing, but I just could not help myself. It was fun to work on this large paper (maybe 18" x 24"). I also worked with something new which was a little scary. This has pearlized ink included in several layers. I was not sure how it would react, but it was fun to kind of squirt on, watch it move, squish it around or just let it sit there. The thing is, I also really lost myself working on this piece. It truly felt as though I was moving on air with it. I loved that feeling of being.

Now it comes down to this... what do you think of my experience? I hesitate to call it an experiment, it was truly an experience. Should I try to go this route again...if I can? Should I give up and leave the paper and ink alone? Is this worthy of a frame? What do you think?

I hope the world is treating you all beautifully here in almost Mid-March! I hope you are finding the time to be creative.

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing with me your thoughts...I honestly appreciate each and every single one.

Have a Fantastic Day!

Yes! Yes! You must continue and stop worrying about what it is you're doing. Just do it! Don't stop at this stage and say 'It needs a frame, is it worthy, is it art...and so on' You said you felt like you were moving on air. Get those wings back on and stop the thinking. The time for thinking is when you get to the end of this feeling, then you can look back at the work(s) and see it with different eyes. It's too new and too precious to give it a name or a place just yet. There! I've had my rant. :)Jess x

Kim dear, why would you stop doing something that makes you feel so wonderful??? Please do continue. Joy is a rare and precious thing. I love this piece by the way. It makes me feel like I'm swimming in amongs the photoplanktons in the sea. You know, they come along sometimes and turn the ocean waters irridescent. There is another name to them that escapes me momentarily. Is it Diatoms? Continue on.

oh yes, yes, totally, don't even question it, it is magical kim. 'rising from the deep blue sea' is my title. hugs.

Of course continue on,,,,if this feels right for you!
No need to frame and all that bother. Attaching it to a standard size 18x24 canvas solves that problem, although I personally like the looks of matting/framing too.
I see the water reference here,,,but I also see dreams. Good dreams. "Dreams In The Making". (perhaps)

Working with something new can tend to be a little scarey,,but less so on paper to me, as the expense of canvas is a non issue, and paper is relatively cheap.

And in my opinion losing yourself in the piece means you were 'In your zone",,,,and that's THE place to be,,,,carry on!

Moving on air--- thats the thing!!! We are here to move on air whenever we can-- so you just keep at it! the state you are in when you make art is just as good for the world as the resulting art-- in my world anyway lol! Those inks are fun yes!!! namaste Elis.

Jess, I love your rants and it is just what I needed to hear. Sometimes I have a hard time getting the head to stop and the heart to begin! I think you just took the head right out of me!

Thanks Jess!

Ohhh, Suki! Thank you for saying you love this piece. It is a bit odd, but it really was great to do. I don't know why I would stop doing this thing like this I love. Sometimes, the designer Kim sneaks up on me and tells me of all the rules and regulations...I just need to remember to remind her she doesn't belong here.

Thank You So Much Sweet Suki!

Ohh Soul, really? Magical? I love that thought...so thank you so much! You know how to pump a girl up, don't you?

Andrea and Kim said...

Ohh, that crazy framing gets my head pumped every time. I thought about attaching it to a canvas as that is comfortable to me...then the head got to going again and I thought what if I wreck the paper and the canvas...of course, how silly of me. Some days I do not know what gets into me.

Thanks so much, Babs! I guess we all need a good shaking every once in a while. Rather than shaking out of the dream maybe shaking back into it, though. I love that title... 'Dreams In The Making'...you come up with some of the best word sequences!

Kim

Hello Elis,

I love your thinking...not only good for art, but good for the world. Oh, now that really makes me want to get back in there and go after it! Tomorrow...it is late tonight and I need my beauty rest...I REALLY need it! LOL

Those inks are amazing. You sent me on an adventure with the other inks and the powders a while back...then I pulled them out again and found these pearl ones. I fell in love! So thanks so much, Elis!

The texture is great here Kim ! more like a gel. One can almost feel the movement. Great work!

Kim I think it shows that you lost yourself so wonderfully in this painting. For me it's really like looking on the surface of this frozen lake, some exotic lake but frozen, we can see things under a layer of silvery ice, ondulating waterplants and dancing fishes...
The ink gives it all another aspect of semi-transparent layers, which makes it mysterious.
This is such a great experience, I can see more of this coming out of your brush:)

Dear Kim,

This piece is really wonderful. I do love it.
Please, continue this experience, it's worth while. Watching at this work, I also perceive sea water and the life in there. For me, sea represents the unconscious .... a title: "Introspection".
Kim, I've given my vote in the showdown and I've asked all my painter friends to do the same.
Love and ciaoooooooooooo

Hi Andrea, it is so interesting to hear everyone's thoughts and feelings about this. I am very much still unattached to this piece (very normal for me). I can also see the frozen lake. What is interesting about that is one of the places we love to go in Montana has a lot of lakes caused by glacial melt. Those lakes have what is known as glacial flour in them...which gives them this very color of green and really kind of opaque when you look at them from a distance. So that whole idea of a frozen lake really makes tons of sense to me.

Funny, I can see more of this coming off the end of my brush, too. It was great fun. I may begin to look at my canvas options, though. :)

Thanks so much, Andrea, your insights are incredible.

Hello Dear Nadia,

First of all, thank you for your vote and for asking your friends, as well. I very much appreciate that.

I am so pleased you like this work. It really was a very cool experience and "Introspection" is absolutely what it evoked in me (once I came out of the trance, so to speak).

Water seems to be a central theme here with this one...I suppose it depends on one's experience with water as to the type of body it evokes in each viewer.

Thanks So Much, Nadia...I very much appreciate your thoughts and input here...and your vote!

Kim, I think this is stunning and I love the depth and sparkly layers. It reminds me of the inside of the layers of a piece of mica rock, a very lovely painting!!

Dear Kim! At first I thought that I can look directly in a magical ocean with fantastic clearly water and a lot of wonderful animals in it.
It 's alive and lively and I love the contrast of the harmonious colors and the form which keep me in suspence. I hope you understand what I mean?

Have a great Sunday! Wurzerl

gg - now you can see my "personal art" in my blog! The new post and an older with the label "chinesische Malerei" will show it to you.

Hey Kim,

I can tell you had fun making this! One of my favouite things about painting is enjoying the materiality of the paint. In fact, that's probably the best reason for painting. The painting is dead advocates can't actually argue with that one. So go ahead...keep enjoying it. Maybe you should (if you haven't already) try making two large cardboard right angles and hover them over the piece as a pretend frame and see what it does to the work. It may enhance it or you might decide something about the composition from it. The might be a really good crop in there. Keep playing. I must do the same. I'm going to start painting at college gain. I'm a little nervous but very excited!

Now I am very excited to visit your blog to see your art there, too. Just think...art and all those incredible garden photos mixed with your stories. What more can a girl want?

Thank You So Much, Wurzerl!

Hello Fiona!

Now I am excited to hear you are going to be painting again...that is very cool and very exciting for me as I love your work. Scary? For You? Girl, I don't know what you are talking about! I can't imagine you being frightened of getting in there to paint...excited, I get completely! :)

Thanks for your insights on this piece. I will try the angles to test out the framing as well the opportunity to crop...which just might be the ticket! I tend to throw things aside quickly and have to spend some time with them in order to find the cropping opportunities.

Thanks so much, Fiona! I am sure your new painting endeavors are going to be very exciting. I can't wait to see them...and the sculpture in the park, too!

Kim
