I Really Have Had A Little Studio Time

While things have been crazy around here, I have been able to get into the studio a little bit. You all have been so patient with me and I thank you. Hopefully by the end of the weekend, I will have visited you and left a comment on your blog. At least that is one of my weekend goals.

As I have shared before most of my paintings are very time consuming and this one is no different. I used acrylics and a frottage technique with rice paper to get some of this texture. I applied layers clear glaze. Then for several layers I used an eye dropper and squirted acrylic ink over the clear glazing, sprinkled that with pearl powder and placed waxed paper over it...and squished everything together and pressed it all down with my hands. When I was ready, I lifted the waxed paper. This is 12" x 16".

You will still have to bear with me for a little while, but I promise I will get there. I hope all is well with everyone and I do plan on visiting you very soon.

Have a Beautiful Day! Now, back to the studio!

Kim don't you hurry visiting everybody...blogging must stay relaxed.
What a wonderful piece of art and how nice your explanation.
Can I use this one time for inspiration in felt?

Dear Kim, I have been wondering how you are and hoping that you have been painting up a storm!

The colours are beautiful! I enlarged the photo and really like all the texture you have created. Thanks for the explanation, I have never used pearl powder, is it acrylic?

Hi Dianne,

Well I have been painting up a storm between a lot of other things. :)

Thank you for your kind words about this "experiment". Today I found something "safer" than pearl powder! You have to wear a mask when you work with that stuff...and if you forget, you pay. Anyway, today I went to the art shop to get some more ink and what do you know? I found ink with the pearl already in it, so you don't have that powder flying around...it is so reflective and I really love that. Here is a site where they are shown nicely... http://www.fineartstore.com/Catalog/tabid/365/CategoryID/1421/List/1/Level/a/Default.aspx?SortField=UnitCost,UnitCost

I hope that comes through. They are FW Pearlescent Liquid Acrylic Inks. They have a decent range which is helpful, too.

I will let you know how it turns out.

Okay, I am getting paint all over this keyboard...maybe not a good thing. I will get back at it!

Thanks Dianne...

Love,

Kim

Hi Kim,
Don you worry aout your blogvisits sometimes there is just no time for it.
When I am out of my daily routine, when I am traveling I find it hard to visit everyone, but I will once home again.
Right now I am in aruba and will leave tonight.
Your painting is magical, it looks like the cosmos! Interesting how you did this with the rice paper etc...... You should have a video about it. I tried to picture the process....
Take care and take time for your art! So important!
hug M

Thank you so much for your understanding, Marianne! There just seems to be so much going on right now...good stuff, too.

Aruba! Now that sounds like a good trip...even if you have to work to get there. :)

Thank you for your kind words about this painting. I have been exploring some new techniques to top everything else off here...so I am having fun, too.

A Video...Marianne! I would not know the least bit about how to create a video.

Thank you, my dear friend! Have a Pleasant Trip Home!

Love,

Kim

Here I am,,,slogging about the blogs,,,I'm slow getting around myself lately,,,but like you, busy with other things.
I've not used those pearl powders either; they do look interesting though.
I almost chuckled to myself when I saw your painting come up,,,,,it is SO Kim,,,I'd recognize your palette anywhere! Not that it's a bad thing, of course,,,having your style identifiable!
You always get such great textures with those tissus, and this one's no exception,,good job!

Babs, I bet you could come up with some real zingers to use those powders for...here is the thing, if you use them, wear a mask!

Yes, I am so comfortable with these colors. I am working on stepping outside of myself there...part of what I am doing right now, but let me tell you it is not easy. I think in the future this may be known as 'Kim's Cool Period' You know like 'his blue period'...Ha Ha Ha!

Thanks So Much Babs...you are always so encouraging!

Kim

Hey Kim (busy lady), I love those beautiful little 'sparkles' of contrast and those textures, what a gorgeous painting this is! It sounds like you have really been in the 'creative zone', woohoo!

Hello Lynette!

Lots of things going on...good thing, though.

Thanks for your always lovely, kind words about my painting. They mean a great deal to me.

I sure am in the creative zone...but you know me, my paintings take a ton of time!

Kim
