"Phases of Life"

Good Morning Everyone! I do hope you have had a lovely weekend.

Today I grabbed s quick shot of one of the paintings I recently completed. You have seen this as a WIP before, however since then I have added layers of gloss glazing. This will go into my Contemplation Series and will have the subtitle, "Phases of Life". It is painted with acrylics (including silver, pearl and inference), and each small canvas is 4" x 12" (12" x 20" overall).

This is different for me, but I have had a great time doing it. It fits right into my work with slow, meditative art. Actually, Andrea gave me the idea when she was doing drawings of jewelry. Thanks Andrea...I guess this goes to show you no two painters see things the same way. :)

Summer is in full swing at my house these days with lots of stuff going on. I hope you are enjoying what ever form summer or winter is taking at your house.

I will be back with another post on Wednesday this week!

Have a Beautiful Day!

Morning, Kim.
I loved this the first time we saw it. I'm betting that the depth in those rich colors is terrific with all those glazes.
Really nice work!

Kim this is lovely. When someone buys it, they can hang the canvases in any order they like, right? I like the gradation of the square clusters and the colors in the background. Have fun doing summer things with your family. :) PS see, it seems fast to me, the finishing of this painting. My 3 paintings are still sitting there unfinished after many weeks. Way slower.

I only mean to say, slow/fast is relative.

Hi Kim! This is great, I can see the layers of glaze and it suits your little life-elements/jewels:) so very well! Love this cross-inspiration, cause every time when I'm admiring your canvases, it brings me motivation for my acrylic paintings.

The "contemplation Series "will be great, and Phases of Life sure is a perfect title.
Have a wonderful time and enjoy the FULL SWING at your house:), here it is a bit grey but that does not take the punch out of us:)

Love from Paris
Andrea

Thanks Babs!

Those glazes really do it for me...but they are so hard to see on the computer.

Catching up here this morning while I have sleeping young people.

Thanks Again, Babs!

Suki,

I think you are right....slow and fast are relative. I had some real concentrated time a week ago or so and got a few things working and this one completed.

And yes, they can be hung however one might like to hang them...even separate, if one might like.

I am having loads of fun with my daughter here these few weeks! I just don't get to see her often enough! :)

Hi Andrea!

It is so true...the cross-inspiration is cool, isn't it? I just so loved your jewelry paintings so much and the way you laid them out. I kept thinking how jewelry was so cool to consider painting...in and of itself (as opposed to being on someone). And this is how it came out of me! LOL

No...a little grayness will not take the punch out of you! Why should it? Right now, I am feeling very UP, so I am of the mindset of embracing what is thrown at me! At least give it a shake, right?

I am having a blast here!

I really love this, Kim. I am always attracted to a series of items all displayed together. I like the continuity of it all. Wish I could see this up close and for real. Glaze is so hard to see online.

Andrea and Kim said...

Thanks Paula,

Yes...so you like series...that is cool! If we could only get these glazes to show on the computer better! Well, one day we will get there, right?

Thanks Paula!

I was going to say it looks great here but I know things look much better in person & the glaze would show much better. That's a lot of work into this and it pays off. Very good. Interesting how we all inspire each other. Thats why I love blogging with other artists of all mediums. It all inspires. Lynn is all inspired over something I gave her and I am inspired by something she gave me. You were inspired by Andrea. Theres another Artist in CA who is doing fantastic paintings in her own style that I think everyone should check out if they haven't already. I am inpsired by here too. http://fififlowersdecor.blogspot.com/
You should see about interviewing her. She does paintings with black ink and acrylics and lots of whimsey.

Hi Cris,

Thanks so much! I know when I comment on people's art work that it has to be so much better in reality, too. So I completely know what you mean. I am really enjoying this a lot and agree with you totally about being inspired by the art of others.

Now, I am going to check out this artist you have shared here. .... I am always excited to learn of some one I have not known before. You are an inspiration, yourself, Cris!

Thanks so much!

Gee Kim, this looks like a lot of work, but I really like the way it turned out. Yes, I do like them all hung together. Very pretty.

Hi Kate,

It kind of looks like little twinkling glass squares, don't you think? I am glad you like the way it turned out, though...I like it, too.

Thanks Kate!

Wow, Kim the energy just zinged out when I first saw this, and those little blocks almost seem animated going across those canvases. I love how you graduated the background colors from one canvas to the next. Wonderful!

Andrea and Kim said...

Thanks Lynette!

Little marching blocks who do not know the canvas they wish to reside... LOL Seriously, I am having great fun here, and I see you are having great fun down at your studio, too. Your new painting is quite wonderful, too, Lynette!

Thank You!

Dear Kim,
great, great, great!!!
How much is feeling in this wonderful painting and how much is intention??? That' s what I ask me!!!
The young person is living in a red love feeling? The colors are changing in a dark blue but at last in a friendly blue when the knowledge and the experience are at the highest point in life. Is this what you felt by painting this wonderful "Phases of Life"?
I will spend one week in London to inspire me in English gardens.
Have a great week my dear Wurzerl

Hi Kim,

This is really wonderful! I love it!

To me it evokes the positive accumulation of experience and wisdom throughout life. It's a very happy piece with lots of depth. It reminds me of you!

Andrea and Kim said...

Oh Wurzerl, thank you so much! You are right, I think that red is love, there is the tension and then the calmness which comes with lots of experience.

And what a great thing to be able to spend time in London...the gardens will be fantastic right now! Oh, how I miss England and all of Europe!

Thanks So Much Wurzerl...and have a Great Trip!

Thanks Fiona!

Hi Kim,

I'm in Wimbledon right now but on Monday I'm going down to the New Forest for a week to get some brick wall paintings done where I have space to splosh around!

I'm also going to be experimenting with painting straight onto raw canvas. Have you tried that? Any tips?

Andrea and Kim said...

(heart)

Thank you, Jess!

Andrea and Kim said...

Fiona, have some great fun in the New Forest...I know you will. How much fun will that be to be painting and be in the Forest?

I can't wait to see those brick wall paintings...they are incredible.

I love painting on raw canvas. For me, it is all about getting the paint to the right viscosity. I am assuming you are using acrylics. I have also found it is best to work outside. Are you painting on stretched or un-stretched canvas? I would love, love, love to hear about your painting experience with the raw canvas as well as the brick walls.

Thanks Fiona...and have great fun in the Forest...and in Wimbledon, too.

fiona long said...

Thanks Kim,

Well, I've just discovered that it has to be acrylics as oil would rot the canvas! It's a shame because I love oil but I don't think it will matter the way I'm using the paint. I'm going to really water it down because I want to achieve an effect similar to a watercolour painting. I've bought 5 metres and will keep trying until I've done something I like and then stretch that up. I'm hoping that I'll be allowed to use the patio furniture!!

Andrea and Kim said...

Yes, it does have to be acrylics for that! If you need to buy, purchase the fluid acrylics as they would be easier to get to the watercolor type stage. I also found it easy to just lay the canvas on the grass and have a go...the paint may seep through the canvas and stain the patio furniture. There are some lovely things you can do with it, since you could scrunch it up for textures and things like that. If you have some boards, you might be able to lay it across those on the furniture to protect it, though!

I think the raw canvas is the greatest way to achieve the watery effects....I can't wait to see how it goes for you! Send me pics.

Thanks Fiona!

Thanks for your tips Kim!

I can't wait to give it a go now! How exciting! I love that scrunching idea!

Andrea and Kim said...

Oh Fiona...I can't wait to see what you do with it all! I bet you come up with a lot of cool ideas for textures on there! The great thing is you will find it loads of fun!

I love the way this one multiplies! The panels, the shapes, the colors--exponential. Like life itself. Like JOY!

Andrea and Kim said...

Thanks San...

Multiplies...now you have given me another idea here! Mmmmm.... Multiplies like JOY! Now what a delightful thought!

Thanks!
