Still Painting

I have been telling you I have been painting lately, but I haven't shown you anything new for a while. I am still painting and actually have too many things going on now in my crowded little studio room.I have been working on this one for quite some time as there needed to be a lot of drying going on between some of the steps. Using orange really made me step outside my box here, I have to say. I am still pulling back from that one :) I have to say, though, the emotions expressed here are very true to what I feel as I gaze forward onto the horizon. So this is 40" high x 30" wide and a very deep 2.5" staple-less canvas and painted in all acrylic. The light line through the center and some splashes are silver along with some white and some pearl paint (I just wanted you to know it is not all white). At the moment, I am contemplating it while I add some glaze layers. I am thinking it is complete and just needs the glazing, but time will tell, I suppose.

I have a few others to share with you and one other large one I can't even get a shot of at the moment. I am also doing some experimenting...we will see how that turns out, too.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. If anyone tried to get to my web site last week, I apologize for the problems. It is back up and running now, though! I am ever so grateful, too.

Have A Great Day!

Wow Kim! This is lovely :) What fun you must be having. I like the sound of the pearl and the silver paint!x

Thanks Jess! I am having a ton of fun, really.

I really like using the pearl and the silver. I also have a copper I like a lot. These are all Golden brand acrylics, but I think there are a couple of other brands making them, too. I also noticed there are some watercolors available in these finishes, too. I think mainly a Japanese style watercolor.

Thanks Jess...

I am off to visit blogs now.

Kim

This new piece is very dynamic- really like the energy. I find it interesting that you are having this dialogue with Orange. . . my favorite color and one that I paint with often. Since I don't know that much about your work, I wonder why this color is challenging you? What makes it feel like stepping out of the box for you?
Thanks for sharing your new work and your thoughts about it. I am trying to gear up to do this in my blog with some new work I have just made- so thanks for the inspiration.
Looking forward to seeing more work from you.

Hello Kendra (right, you are the painter?).

There is a great deal of energy in this piece and a great deal given to it, as well.

You know many people adore orange and it is a fabulous hue with some incredible values. I am very drawn to the cooler side of the wheel. If I choose reds, they are cooler, if I choose greens they are cooler. So I think this is a great deal of what I am dealing with. It is good for me, but something which is a challenge. I think a great deal of it comes from my background in interior design where we often choose colors which "look good" on the clients. These colors I am comfortable with are also the colors I wear...orange is clearly not a color I would be comfortable wearing :). This is good to contemplate.

Oh, I am really looking forward to seeing your new work...this will be great fun!

Thanks for stopping by and have a Delightful Day!

Love,

Kim

I love these dynamic colors and paint splashes and strokes. A vibrant painting and one of my favorites of yours. So exciting you are trying a color that is unusual to you. I think it is good to explore colors we are not ordinarily drawn to. Orange, to me a lower chakra color maybe to balance all the higher chakra blues/purples you prefer. So glad you are back working again.

ps followed yr link at the top of the sidebar to see what that is all about. Sounds good kim, hope it works for you.

Awe Suki, thank you so much...how nice to hear that from you - an artist of high regard! Hugs!

I had not thought of this orange issue in this way, but I think you are right. Maybe my use of orange is only me seeking balance! Ah Ha! You are so insightful! Thanks so much!

Thanks for following that link...what a story that was for me. I have to say it has really stroked me lately! You are a dear person, Sweet Suki!

Hi Cris,

Thank you so much...that means a lot! You seem to be a high energy kind of person, indeed. Yes? Dancing Women? Wow! Like billowy, full skirts? How cool is that?

Thank you so much, Cris!

Andrea and Kim said...

Ah Thank You, Babs! You know how I love to hear those words from YOU! :)

How do you come up with these names? I am kind of loving this one, too! It feels like Confetti and why not a concert?

Thanks Again, Babs!

Hi Kim, Ooooh, I love this painting, there is so much energy - I love the pearl and white line dividing the image, I see a fire burning up into the night sky which is reflected in an expanse of water. I also like Bab's Confetti Concert idea.
I think it is really good to use a colour that you are unfamiliar with, it really pushes you into unfamiliar territory.

Thank you, Dianne! I am really needing to hear this with this one. I never know what is going to happen until I am finished for the day. With this one, I said to myself..."oh, my, what have I done?"

Thanks So Much!

So much going on in this painting. can´t help but a lot of your work brings the association in me of cables, wires and communication........
It is good to work with colors out of your box!

hug >M<

Andrea and Kim said...

Yes, there is a lot going on, Marianne. I think it is because there is so much going on with me. That is interesting how you find the communication theme happening with my paintings...I wonder if it means I struggle to communicate or I communicate with the paintings or if I do too much of it! :)

It surprises me to work with colors outside of my box, I can tell you that!

Thanks Marianne!

I like this one very much...the colors and the splashes really do touch my heart...a concert, yes! So hard to know when dones is done. I'm going back into the studio to just paint, no collage and it feels very different. Seeing your work is giving me courage to PAINT again.

Andrea and Kim said...

Mary Ann, thank you for your kind words about this painting.

I am glad you found courage in this painting....I am eager to see what your courage decides to do.

Kim

Came back to look at this some more cause I love it so much.
And it's such a great visual example for what you are describing in today's post, about the artist putting so much of him/herself into the artwork.

Here is such crazy movement, I can feel the boiling and agitated atmosphere, spiky fire, and then there is the lifesaving, calm, and steady thread through it, keeping a general direction in mind and a little space around it which keeps it an inch or so away from the exterior agitation...
I love to expore your paintings

Awe Andrea! Thank you so much for saying this. I have struggled with this one for some reason. While you are right to say I put a lot of myself into it...I really did, so I am glad you can see it (this one was a good month in process).

Ah you are right about the feelings. I keep thinking I was anticipating or looking into the future with this one (the reason for the horizon type beginning), but knowing life was going to be crazy...is this about what is to come? So do you think I am showing I intend to be protective of myself while all of this wild life is going to be happening around me...creating my cocoon there in the middle of it all? Yes, I am thinking you just might be seeing right through me here with this painting!

You are so good at pulling out of me just what it is my insides are expressing!

Thank You So Much, Andrea!

Love,

Kim

Oh now I see a tunnel, and you are advancing safely in there. No matter how hot and spiky it gets out there, you are fine in your cool tunnel, nothing to worry about.

Ah, Andrea! I love this vision of the cool, safe tunnel in the middle of the "heat" and excitement. Yes, wrapped in protection...I love that image!

Thanks!
