This is a frottage piece of acrylic on rice paper. I have found, if I do not use the plastic for the cover sheet, the rice paper makes a good alternative. Okay, so one of the reasons I like to use the rice paper is it is strong enough to be used again for something else or stand alone. What do you like to use when you do this technique?
I rather like the way this turned out with the swoops and swirls. I also like the balance of light and dark which is sometimes a challenge for me. Of course, it is one of those pieces I have no idea what I am going to do with it....so it will hang out with me a bit or for a long time trying to decide.
As I look at this piece, I like to think of it as a trail of playing in a pool. Several people are interacting, then swim away from each other only to come back together to talk or play again. It is about interactions.
Are you making time to create?

kim, i did a lot of decorating of rice and tissue papers last year and then set them aside in my collage box and have found them enormously valuable as i do my collage work. i dont think you do collage but am sure a purpose will arise for this energetic piece. i forget what frottage is so will have to look it up. been very uncreative lately but did have that big weekend of creating. 6 hours a day for me but others went to the studio after dinner also so they spent even more time at work. i didnt have the stamina.
Kim, beautiful creation. I like the feeling of movement it suggests. <3
Aaah, it looks/feels like large river rock. And I love it!
You know I STILL haven't gotten any rice paper? I guess I am just using up what I have on hand. So much stuff I have already,,,,.
Maybe you're storing up these bits and pieces to begin an adventure in collage. On canvas,,,no need to fuss with framing that way. Sounds fun to me,,,how 'bout you?
Yes, I'm creating,,,I've been trying to create a clean kitchen this morning.
:-D
Are you talking to me?
LOL for paranoia....
Wax paper :)

Hi Suki,
I can imagine it would be very exciting to have such a big weekend of creating. Wow! Your friend is also right, it is quite brave of you. I am much better creating when I am in my own little world.
You know I have not done much collage work but find it interesting. I am so into my own little thing at the moment, but you never know what might pop up later on...that is for sure. :) I am not sure I want to cut this up quite yet, though...Mmmm, lots to consider.
Frottage is when I lay the paper across wet paint, rub it with my hands and then lift the paper off... depending on how I lift the paper, I can get different textures. For me, it is kind of exciting, but I am easily entertained! :)
Thanks Sweet Suki!

Kim
Thanks so much, Cynthia!

Tee Hee Babs! You can come to my house I could also use a clean kitchen, a clean living room, a clean family room, a clean office, a clean studio...you get the idea, you could create away right here! :)
I am not sure about collage right now, but I am collecting these bits and will see what comes of them. This one is about 20" x 24", and I am not sure I am ready to cut or tear it up right now. I never know what urge will hit me later, though.
I love working with rice paper, but I also completely understand using what is at hand! Why not, right?
Okay, Babs, get out of the clean kitchen and find something else to create!
Love,
Kim
Hi Michelle,
You know I like using wax paper, too...sometimes it is good to lift the paint with the wax paper, let it move around a little more (or help it), then do the frottage onto another type of paper! That is cool!
I can't imagine you are paranoid...YOU? With the work you do and there is still paranoia? Come on! Let that guy go, there is always something to be done with the result!
Love,
Kim
Kim, what a beautiful art you did.. i like the way you describe playing in a pool, very creative
Sabi
This is brilliant Kim! I like your swimming pool reading. I can really see that. So in a way it's a drawing, and a very beautiful one! I really like the way you've balanced the tone. Very successful!
Hello Sabi,
Thank you so much! I am glad you like the frottage as well as the words!

Kim
Hello Fiona,
Thank you so much! I don't know why the swimming pool analogy came to me...maybe it was the high humidity here or something. I seem to be obsessed with balance in a lot of forms these days.
You are a dear, Fiona!

I love the balance of this piece, too. And now that you said it, I see a water ballet too... or, again, a satelite picture with storm on earth. Just love the composition.
You know some of these frottage pieces really have some interesting compositions, and I think that is why I am reluctant to take them further. Maybe, though, as you said before if I am patient they will begin to become easier to move forward!
Thanks Andrea!

Lovely interactions, each heightening the energy.
Thanks so much, San! You always have a way of making me feel good about what I am doing!
Love,
Kim
