From the Past

Untitled 18 x 24 Acrylic deep, gallery wrapped canvas
Today I thought I would share with you a painting from my past. There is a bit of a glare, but with the recent weather, it is the best image I could grab. My apologies, please. At any rate, this painting has two siblings. True, one is in England, and the other one is in New Zealand. This one is at my house. I don't know why I have not done any other paintings like this, because the other two siblings quickly found homes.
I did this like a monoprint, but with two...would that be a polyprint? First I painted the backgroun of three canvases of the same size. Then from the paint tube, I "drew" a design on one canvas, and after that I pressed in turn the other two canvases to the first one. As you can imagine the second and third canvases did not have the same quantity of paint as did the first one. I also pulled the canvases apart differently, so the texture was different. [I wish I had pictures to show you of the other two, however I lost some photographs when we moved from England back to the US.] Once this was done, I then took a brush and worked each of these in a slightly different way. After they were dry, I did a bit more working of each painting.
To me, this one looks like a dancer in flowing skirts. The best news, these were great fun to do, because dealing with the color was the only thing I had control over in the beginning. There is a lot to be said for doing that from time to time.
Have a Very Lovely Day!

Kim,
Yes, I can see that dancer with a flowing skirt - a lot of sheer layers of material floating around her.
Beautiful image...

I love the movement and energy of this piece.
Do some more... :)

Thanks Dannielle,

You know I think I will probably do more of these. I am kind of on a jag here with my Music series, but I am also working on a Contemplation series, too. These would fit in nicely there.

You know, you are right there is a ton of movement in this. I need to get some additional canvases to work this out on. That is good, though, since I am about to place an order for some. :)

Thanks so much for your encouragement. I value your opinion so much as I am a HUGE fan of YOUR art!

I remember I did something like this back in school with tube colors. Fold the paper in middle, throw in some thick color and then press in all directions. The effect used to be so amazing every single time.
I want to learn the technique of monoprints. I think it is so wonderful.

You know when this painting caught my eye again, I thought I needed to do some more of these. It is not a true monoprint, but the idea is the same. You are so right, it comes out so interesting every single time.

Thank you so much for visiting. Your paintings are so wonderful to explore.

love the colours and movement in this piece! Monoprinting is too much fun! I often make a mess but the unpredictability and freshness of the image is often startling.. such as here! namaste Elis.

Elis, I am glad you like this. You do have to create enough space to do the monoprinting process, but it is worth it. As I have been thinking about this today, I realize monoprinting really sets things up nicely for movement, doesn't it? Yes, it does keep it very fresh!

I am going to do more of these...the more we talk here the more excited I get! :)

Thanks Everyone! I guess that is what blogging is about, uh?

Thanks Babs! Oh, I do love those colors that is for sure :) You know what? I think traditionally monotypes are only done on paper! But you know me, I will try most anything I think of with this stuff! You have seen some of the messes I have made! Thanks so much for visiting me and sharing your thoughts. You know how I feel about your thoughts on my work.

Lynette, I am glad you like it. I put it up here on a whim and now you are not the first one to say I should explore this technique more. Heck! I think I will! :) Thanks so much, Lynette! Your input about my work means a great deal.

Thanks Andrea. You know I am so encouraged by the comments on this, I am going to work on some more of these. They will fit in a series I have going, too. It is kind of a monoprint, but not exactly as they are not done on glass or anything. And the more you lift off the more interesting they can get. Also, if you do some, try pulling them apart in different ways. It is interesting how that changes things.

Thanks Andrea, you are always so generous with your kind comments.

Ah! Julianne! It is lovely to see you here. Thank you for your kind words about this painting. You are wonderful about always seeing the ocean. Maybe I should do a water series sometime. I do love water, too!

Feel better, my friend!
