Today, I want to play catch up with images for you. It really gets to me when I do not have photographs to show you, so hear are a few to get things going on this blog again. Believe me, this is just blabbering....
This is a panel I painted with some of Golden's Micaceous Iron Oxide. That is all I have done...painted it. I like the reflective quality of this product and am sure I will feel inspired once I have the opportunity to spend time in my studio. Have you ever used this product? Do you like it? How did you use it?
What is this? It is the bottom of a cardboard soup cup (I used a double because the soup was so hot) I used to mix some paint for a new canvas. I just liked the way it looked and took a photo. Do you do things like that? Take photos of odd things which just strike you as interesting.
This is the canvas I was painting when I left my studio and mixed the above paint for. Over the last days, I have been thinking about what I might do with this one... Let's see if it works.
This is one of those panels I was testing on earlier. I don't think this is fun, but here is what you see, so far...acrylic paint, rice paper, gauze I used to paint some texture on another canvas, a blob of dried acrylic paint and some metal foil.
This is the metal foil a friend of mine sent me from Germany. See the jar on the right? That is the one I like the most. I seem to have a difficult time using metal foil, but I still like to play with it. Play is good, right?
So this is basically what I have for you today. I promise to do better tomorrow...really I do.
I want to thank you all for being so patient and kind with me over the last few days. My father is doing really, really well and all of my family thanks you all for your well wishes which worked perfectly. I am so humbled by the kindness of all of the artists who come here to comment and send me emails. You all are a part of a rare breed of people, and I am honored to call you friends.
Thank You So Much!

Oooh, Kim you have me drooling over the iron oxide and metal foils, they look so beautiful to work with and I would love to try them, especially the iron oxide paint! Kudos both for your idea of grabbing the camera to get interesting photos and your painting of blue which is like a big sumptious sky with little streaks of white clouds, I love it!! I'm glad to hear your Dad is doing well!
Thanks Lynette! Isn't that a really fabulous finish? And it is so rough, too...so the texture is quite nice. I wish I were better with the metals...they really give me a fit.
I am glad you think the painting looks like the sky since I have it tagged for one in my Music Series! Here is a hint....think Rod Stewart...
Thanks Lynette...you are so dear!
Kim, I really like your test panel! Leave that alone. And yes, I do like to work with odd objects, as you surely must know by now. I'm so glad that your Dad is doing well. Don't feel guilty, we all understand that you've been busy. Have a good day.
Hi Kate!
It feels so good to be talking with you all here again.
Yes? You think this is it...leave it? Okay!
You are wonderful with odd bits and pieces...love your work!
Thank you so much for your well wishes...they work great!
Glad you are home and back to work and that your dad is doing well. Love that first picture, I'll have to get some of that paint. Wow. And i love the metal foil too. Soup container art.? Artists find beauty and interest everywhere, eh?
Hmm. Posted a comment that didnt appear. Glad you are home and your dad is ok. (Am abbreviating my previous comment). Love the iron oxide paint. And the glitteries in the jar. Have fun with them. Artists see art in the oddest things, in almost everything, eh?
Hi Suki!
Thanks for your kindness. The more I look at that panel with that iron oxide on it, I am considering taking my own advice about simplicity!
You are right...some of us see strange things in strange places! LOL
Thanks again, Suki. Note, I have added you to my blogs list!
Kim, I've loved these glimpses of you at play. Yes, play is seriously important. ;-)
Micaceous iron oxide--love it! My beautiful Flannery gave me some for Christmas before last and I used it right up. Good as chocolate.
Hi San!
As a first born, play is not easy for me, but I am working on it! :)
Ohh, I love that...good as chocolate! Yes, and it is so much fun to put in place, too! It just feels so interesting!
And you are so right, Flannery is so very beautiful in so many ways! We are so blessed as moms, aren't we?
Thanks San...I will be applying your generous award today!
A response to first born's and play. Whether due to my first born status or my dour unplayful for the most part parents, I was not a playful person for a long while. Then I took some time with myself and purposely pursued play. And reenvisioned some things I already was doing as play. Such as browsing in used books stores. Going thrift shopping. etc. I taught myself to play. Learning how to make handmade paper, opened me to play with my craft in a big way. It is so freeing and fun and messy and you can't make a bad sheet of paper, it is true. Making paper was so fun and people liked the things I made too. I never sold so many craftworks as when i was making paper.
Suki! This is a good comment for me, to be sure. Not only teaching myself to play, but clearly defining what is play for me! I love that message!
Redefine play to know what it is for yourself! Love It!
Thank You Suki!
Play is very, very good! Sometimes I get stale and disappointed because I get all serious about my artworks.
Question: Take photos of odd things which just strike you as interesting.
Answer: Yup! I do. Like my recent blog post of my feet. (chuckle)
Okay...now I am working on this play thing! LOL
Love the feet, too!
Thanks Chewy!
Hi Kim,
That Iron Oxide looks so cool! I must try that out if I ever see it! Is it a paint or a powder that you mixed?
Yes, I take weird process shots all the time! I love to do that! I find it useful as a kind of journal tool and it can inspire me.
That's funny. I was using those metal leaf flakes just the other day! I love them! It was a sort of pseudo iconography thing.
It's nice to see what you've been up to and I'm pleased your Dad is recovering well! xx
Fiona, it is a Golden product. I know that is a bit more difficult to find there, but it can be had. I think Jackson Art carries their line. There is another art shope in London (3 locations), too. One of the locations is near the National Portrait Gallery. I can't think of the name...they also have Golden for a decent price. Do you know the one I am talking about? It is just like paint in a pot...you can brush or knife it on...or whatever you want. I suppose you could use a spoon and throw it on, too! :) You can use it just like acrylic paint.
Weird shots...well, you just can't help doing them. They can really turn out very cool! I like the idea of using them for journaling tools.
I just don't think I have gotten the hang of those metal bits!
It is nice to have you visit me when you are so busy!
Thanks Fiona.
So glad to hear your Dad is doing well!
These new glittery art toys look like alot of fun!
Thanks Babs!
I am so glad you are home! I have missed you!
